So I assume you've Imported the shape into Modeler and DIDN't
see such a floating point above the object, right?  If so, and it's
NOT connected to the object, then delete it.  If, however, there
is NO floating point, then lasso select the point of the object
in polygon select mode and see if polygons are selected as
indicated by a non-zero number in the selection info box at the
bottom.  If there's even ONE selected (single point) poly, then
click on Cut to remove it/them.  This way you don't have to
worry about the surface setting for such point polys being left
attached to your objects.
